If you visit Nebraska, then make sure to go to the Henry Doorly Zoo and Aquarium. It has an area of 130 acres (0.52 km²) and contains 17,000 animals of 962 different species! The zoo features many different types of environments. One of the world’s largest indoor rainforests is here. It is inside of a 80-foot (24m) tall building that covers 8.2 acres (6,100m²)! There are also separate living environments for gorillas, orangutans, Felidaes (big cats), and bears.
Food lovers will definitely be interested in the Nebraska Pork Producers’ Capital City Ribfest. This is a four day summer street festival featuring barbecue and music. Thousands of people attend this event to eat good food and listen to live folk, classic rock, blues, and country music. People are also encouraged to donate caned food to the Food Bank of Lincoln, which helps people in need. This year (2012) is the 15th annual Ribfest.
“Be quiet. Don’t touch. Those are the usual rules for kids in museums, but not in Nebraska”. The Nebraska Division of Travel and Tourism not only encourages people to not only visit their museums, but to also to learn by doing. There are many interactive displays throughout the many museums across Nebraska. At the Edgerton Explorit Center, you can learn about science by taking part in experiments and by viewing live demonstrations!
