What is the state’s motto? ______________________________________________________

I was born and raised in Phoenix, Arizona. My favorite place to visit is the Grand Canyon. Arizona is an awesome state because it has both desert and forests! I love to go hiking in the mountains and swimming in the desert. I currently live in Tucson, which is home to the University of Arizona Wildcats. I am a proud wildcat alumni! The other university, Arizona State, is located in Tempe near Phoenix.

Arizona shares a southern border with Mexico. It shares a western border with California and an eastern border with New Mexico. The states to the north are Nevada, Utah, and Colorado.
If you ever visit Arizona you can go to the “Four Corners Monument” where four states border each other and you can even stand in all four states at one time!

Arizona is home to 25 different Native American reservations and tribes. The Navajo Nation has the largest land reservation of American Indians in the U.S.. I am a member of the Gila River Indian Community and my grandfather still speaks the Native language O'odham.

Arizona was originally home to Native American tribes and Mexicans, but in 1847 the U.S. Government made the treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo and paid Mexico for the land which is now Arizona. The treaty gave Native Americans certain rights, but the U.S. Government did not fulfill its promises. Today Native Americans continue to live on the land of their ancestors and demand water and other human rights. There is a lot about Arizona politics in the news, but I think this is a good thing because we have the opportunity to educate people about the history and complicated issues in America.

I love Arizona because it has the most sunny days per year, the Sonora desert with saguaro cacti, and a large mix of people! In the summer, it is over 100 degrees Fahrenheit (38 Celsius), but in the winter it is beautiful and warm in the desert!
