What is the state’s motto? ______________________________________________________
Alaska one of the purest states in the Union. It was purchased from the Russians for $7.2 million and it’s full of adventure with activities such as fishing, hiking, wildlife viewing, culture & history, sightseeing, winter activities, kayaking & rafting, and much more! Alaska is home to the tallest mountain in the United States, Mount McKinley, which is a towering 20,320 feet (6,194 m). This makes it the tallest mountain in North America! Alaska consists of five specific regions: Inside Passage, Southcentral, Interior, Far North, and the Southwest.
The capitol of Alaska is located in the Inside Passage Region. There are many different kinds of animals you can see here, such as whales, sea lions, and the US national bird, the Bald Eagle. Three distinct native tribes, the Tlingit, the Haida, and the Tsmshians, originated here. Many of their stories are told through totem poles. These stories can be about famous legends, family history, special events, and can even be used to shame someone. People used to think that totem poles were used for worship, but explorers soon discovered that they were not used in this way.
Depending on the time of year that you visit Alaska, you can see and do many things. If you head up there in the winter, be sure to see the Northern Lights. Don’t forget your camera when checking out the shades of green, purple, and red in this natural light show. In the summer, you can go on a search for gold! You might not get rich, but you can try panning for gold just like the 40,000 gold rushers in the late 1800s. Ecotourism is another recommendation when visiting Alaska. This helps protect the environment by using well marked paths for hiking, being careful with campfires, and cleaning up after yourself when out in nature.
