North Dakota is a perfect state if you love the great outdoors! States that border North Dakota are: Montana to the west; Minnesota to the east; the Canadian providences of Saskatchewan and Manitoba to the north; and South Dakota... to the south!
North Dakota has developed what are called “Education Vacations”. The name might sound like school, but it’s definitely a fun, hands-on experience. For example, you can learn how to make clay pottery from a professional using local clay. The tour includes clay, extra supplies needed, firing fee, instruction, a tour of the facility, and a demonstration. If you like what you make, then they will mail the finished product home to you once it’s cooled and finished.
Have you ever wanted to see what it’s like to dig up dinosaur bones? In North Dakota you can go on a paleontology field tour! You will go to sites that are currently being used for scientific studies with Pioneer Trials Regional Museum personnel. People that go on the tour get to help by doing some supervised collecting. On the tour, you will learn about the plants, animals, and the environment from 78 to 28 million years ago.
Another great thing to do is to go to the North Dakota State Fair. The State Fair goes on for nine nights from July 20 to July 28 in Minot, North Dakota. There are over 600 different booths with lots of great food or local arts and crafts to buy. In addition to that, there is lots of good, live music as well as rodeo events, such as bull riding. While you’re there keep a look out for the Norsk Hostfest Tree Troll and The Amazing Big Foot!
